An Irpinia bistrot with a story

LaFarmacia Bistrot stands where medicines were once prepared for the town. The sign is still there, and so is the spirit: care, attention, quality in what you offer. Today those walls host contemporary cuisine that looks to Irpinia — its wines, meats and vegetables — and brings them to the table in a new form.

This is how we are a restaurant in Monteforte Irpino: a seasonal menu in Campania, rooted in Irpinian cooking, served with the calm and precision of a chef in the province of Avellino who chose to build his vision here.

The Chef

Luca Matarazzo

A thread runs through Luca Matarazzo’s cooking: respect for ingredients, precision in every gesture, and the wish to surprise without ever losing substance.

Irpinian by background and calling, Luca built his path kitchen by kitchen, refining technique and sensibility in very different settings. After graduating in Food & Wine and Hospitality at the Sandro Pertini institute in Montoro and earning the Gambero Rosso Chef certification, he worked across Irpinia and Campania before joining one of Italy’s most celebrated stages: Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole — a one-Michelin-star restaurant in a five-star Argentario resort — where he honed plating, line work and the culture of detail that defines fine dining.

Back in Campania, he spent four years as Sous Chef at Holiday Inn (Nola), leading the brigade, tasting menus, banqueting and catering. He took part in national food events — including BaccalaRe by Gourmeet Italia in Naples — and shaped a personal vision: seasonal cuisine, rooted in the land, speaking to both palate and eye.

Since April 2025 he has been Executive Chef at LaFarmacia Bistrot in Monteforte Irpino. Menus follow the seasons, suppliers are chosen among local excellence, and every dish is designed for the guest at that table.
